Samadhi is an indescribable state of pure consciousness, pure awareness.  In deeper levels of samadhi, there is no mind and no ordinary consciousness of the body, physical surroundings, or time.

Shivabalayogi meditated in samadhi for at least twenty-three hours every day for eight years.

He would return to ordinary consciousness at midnight when he washed himself, perhaps take a glass of milk as his only nourishment, and then return to his meditation.
